ARC Book Review: A Dark and Hollow Star
This book was a wild ride with a massive world and so many different happenings, but it all came together as an amazing story.
A Dark and Hollow Star by Ashley Shuttleworth is the classic faerie realms meet mortal world, but Shuttleworth brings a darker magical adventure mixed with a murder mystery that makes the world of ADAHS completely distinctive and unique. The world building is immense with not only showing the buzzing human city of Toronto, but also throwing in a world of fae and their courts, ancient gods, and more. Everything and everyone is intertwined, fleshed out, and it's all beautifully written and vividly shown through multiple POVs so the reader gets every experience.
The casually queer cast come from all different backgrounds, and each one has a part to play in the story. Personally, I usually struggle with books that contain multiple POVs (this book has four) because I will find a favorite and prefer to read their POV the most. With this book, I was drawn in with each character and eagerly devoured every POV because the characters made the story even that more compelling and interesting.
This book as a little bit of everything for every kind of reader! Whether it's the beautiful world with its magical murder mystery, the beautifully awful power of fae, or the cast of queer characters, every reader will find something they like with this book.
